7 Nov 2007 - Forest chief to meet FORA members
Come and hear the man who runs Epping Forest talk about the area and his work.
The Superintendent of Epping Forest, Mat Roberts, has agreed to speak to FORA members on Wednesday 7 November at St Andrew's church hall, Colworth Road.
Starts 8pm
Mat Roberts is responsible for the management and conservation of the 8,000 acres of
Epping Forest, the largest public open space in the London area.
Epping Forest adjoins the FORA area in the south -- at Whipps Cross Road, James Lane and Forest Glade.
A man with great experience of protecting beautiful areas throughout Britain, Mat Roberts came to Epping in 2006 from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, where he was the Warden Services Manager. Before that, he lived in Wales and worked as Chief Ranger for The Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Epping Forest stretches 12 miles from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex.
It is of national and international conservation importance with two thirds of it wooded, and the same proportion is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. It contains a wealth of wildlife.
